Can of Worms performing on the Main Stage at the first Mdumbi Green Fair Music Festival |
Having just landed back in East London I thought I'd share the Worm's latest news! This year we were invited to be a part of the first ever Mdumbi Green Fair Music Festival taking place over the weekend of 20th - 22nd May and hosted by Mdumbi Backpackers in the former Transkei. The three day festival hosted around 50 musicians with performances on two stages. Amidst our recording schedule we thought it a great opportunity to play (music), play (music) and play (party).
The Worms on the Beach Stage |
Can of Worms first performance took place on the Beach Stage at around 3pm on Saturday where we shared a mellow afternoon set including firm favourite Free as a Tree with an awesome extended percussion intro and new song Sons and Daughters written by Steve which has a relaxed blues vibe. The Beach Stage was a total highlight for artists as we sat in the sunshine looking out over Mdumbi Bay whilst enjoying jams from fellow bands as well as community dance and music.

Our evening set was hosted on the Main Stage near Mdumbi Point where a stage has been set up in amongst the trees. The Worms played our newest set which included more new material in Definitely Maybe. It was great to see so many people up and dancing throughout the set and to get positive feedback from the audience and musicians afterwards.
Sunday afternoon saw a relaxed set with a tired but appreciative audience before the Worms headed on back to East London.

Other acts over the weekend included Heather Waters and band, Akkedis, Dada-FM, Piet Botha, Manouche, Lyzyd Kyngs, Snoux and more!
The weekend of performances has helped us practise and play our current material which we're laying down at the Eastern Cape Audio Visual Centre (ECAVC) to create our first album. Watch this space for more news on the album!
We would like to say a huge thanks to Johan and the crew at Mdumbi for inviting and hosting us and for treating ourselves and all of the other musicians like rock stars, Akkedis and the sound crew and engineers for managing the tech set-up over the weekend, all of the other artists and musicians involved and of course the festival goers for making the weekend an absolute ball!
