Six Become Five

We announced in May that Debbie Bezuidenhout - percussion and sound effects - has decided to step down as a performing member of Can of Worms. This decision is in no way a reflection of our relationship with Debs who will always be a Worm at heart. We want to express our thanks for all the time, creativity, energy and love that she has put into the band to date; we've really had some incredible experiences in the short time that we've been together and we wish her all the best for the next adventure.

Mdumbi Green Fair Music Festival 2018

Killer performance to kick off the Mdumbi Green Fair Music Festival on Friday night
as caught by Roelien (Red Events and Photography)

Can of Worms was invited to perform at the third annual Mdumbi Green Fair Music Festival on 18 - 20 May. While this festival feels like "home turf" it is an absolute highlight of our year - where big South African acts come together to support rural Eastern Cape community businesses and initiatives in one of the most beautiful corners of the Wild Coast. Our performance slots were absolute corkers - a real party set at 9.30pm on Friday night and kicking off the show at 7.30pm on Saturday.

Check out this stunning promo movie about MGF2018 - created by Ocean Driven Media:

Performance Highlights

We've been jamming regularly at Eastern Cape venues with a rumbling Summer Season kicking off with a mini-tour to Port Elizabeth, Jeffreys Bay and Cape St. Francis, supporting big local SA acts including Desmond and the Tutu's and Jeremy Loops, cheering in the New Year at The C Club (Chintsa) with Gangs of Ballet and supporting local East London creative arts school Belgravia in a recent benefit concert. You can see photos of these events on our instagram page @canofwormssa - why not give us a follow while you're there?

Debut Album UnEarthed is Launched

The 3rd November 2017 marked the release of our debut album UnEarthed - the album has been released to all digital distribution channels as well as a small run of ACTUAL CD's for those who want the real deal ;) It felt like it was a long time coming but really - for a band that has only been together for two and a half years, it is quite a big achievement.

It's All About the (Album) Artwork

Cover art: Artur Szygulski - The Dream of Flying
As you can imagine, a band with six members (plus a manager) at times finds it difficult to come to a unanimous decision... on ANYTHING! So finding and agreeing on the artwork for our debut album was quite a process.

Getting Funky with Kathy Raven

Kathy Raven and Can of Worms - anniversary gig 2016

We've been quiet on line for a few weeks while the worms all beaver away at getting the much anticipated first album completed in the studio. Last weekend saw us pop up to celebrate our one year "Gig-iversary"- that's right! 12 months since our first ever gig! We marked the occasion in style at a private event hosted at Tea in the Trees in Chintsa, which also celebrated April (our woodwind maestro) and and her husband Johnny's first wedding anniversary.

Mdumbi Green Fair Music Festival 2016

Can of Worms performing on the Main Stage at the first Mdumbi Green Fair Music Festival

Having just landed back in East London I thought I'd share the Worm's latest news! This year we were invited to be a part of the first ever Mdumbi Green Fair Music Festival taking place over the weekend of 20th - 22nd May and hosted by Mdumbi Backpackers in the former Transkei. The three day festival hosted around 50 musicians with performances on two stages. Amidst our recording schedule we thought it a great opportunity to play (music), play (music) and play (party).

Rocking the Larterbury Fest 2015

Can of Worms rock out at Legends Venue, East London
Fresh off the boat from SA Indies Music Week in Jo'burg, the Worms were invited to be a part of the annual Larterbury Music Festival, this year hosted at Legends Venue in East London on 23rd December. Some great local talent graced the stage including Ed Johnson, the Atterbury and Larter brothers and local band Serotonin.

Serotonin recently supported music legend Johnny Clegg who performed in East London on 16th December.

The night had a great turn out with lots of new faces and Cindy's energy and personality got the crowd up and dancing the night away.

See you on the 28th Dec at C Club when we will be supporting Desmond and the Tutu's!
